Bawumia pledges to rebuild La Pleasure Beach after demolition

Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has committed to restoring La Pleasure Beach following the demolition of structures at the popular Accra seaside destination. In a statement released on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Dr Bawumia characterized La Beach as a vital social, economic, and cultural crossroads that generates livelihoods for thousands, particularly the youth.

He expressed sorrow over the demolition and voiced worry that certain movable business assets were destroyed. Dr Bawumia assured that, if the New Patriotic Party is in power, his administration would rebuild the beach economy and grant leases to businesses operating there. He also indicated that the area would be revamped to meet necessary standards while aiding current operators to comply with the law.

Additionally, he promised to enable the coexistence of larger institutions, such as Labadi Beach Hotel, alongside smaller establishments integral to the beach’s commercial ecosystem. Dr Bawumia pledged to collaborate with the owners of Laboma Beach to resolve lingering issues and tackle flooding and environmental issues around the lagoon.

He emphasized his dedication to safeguarding and enhancing the thousands of jobs supported by the beach economy.
