'You could be legends' - inside unfancied Wakefield's rapid ascent
Wakefield Trinity's stars of yesteryear are remembered in sepia; the class of 2026 have the chance to add some colour with the chance of Grand Final glory.
Wakefield Trinity's rapid ascent in the Super League has taken them from obscurity to the brink of winning their first title since 1968. The club's transformation has been a remarkable journey, thanks in large part to the vision and investment of owner Matt Ellis, who has poured both time and money into the team and stadium. Owner and head coach Daryl Powell has been instrumental in this turnaround, tapping into the club's potential and bringing in a new generation of talent.
The team, now boasting experienced players like Jake Trueman, Ky Rodwell, and Jazz Tevaga, has the backing of a strong coaching staff led by assistant manager Michael Shenton and recruitment expert Ste Mills. This perfect storm of ownership, coaching, and players has propelled Wakefield to the brink of history, with the Grand Final against Warrington Wolves looming as the ultimate goal.
