The United States is increasing its military presence in the Middle East following a recent incident and as President Donald Trump considers further strikes against Iran. A third aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, is on its way to the region, joining two existing carriers, the USS George HW Bush and USS George Washington.
Approximately 9,000 to 10,000 additional service members are expected to join the deployment. This brings the total US naval presence in the area to over 20,000 sailors and Marines, alongside hundreds of aircraft.
President Trump has warned Iran of severe consequences if they are found to be linked to the recent Flydubai cockpit attack. He also dismissed Iran's peace proposal, delivered through Qatari intermediaries, at the United Nations General Assembly. Trump has indicated a willingness to launch fresh strikes against Iran following the November 3 midterm elections.
He suggested Iran might be responsible for the incident involving a co-pilot who attacked a co-pilot and attempted to crash an aircraft bound for Israel. Trump stated that such an involvement would result in "very hard" retaliation. However, no official evidence has yet linked Iran to the incident.
