The Swan: Behind The Mirror director Erin Lee Carr on the docs shocks and flock
New to Hulu, this documentary will have you raging over the 2004 reality TV nightmare.
Erin Lee Carr, a talented filmmaker known for her thought-provoking documentaries like Mommy Dead & Dearest, I Love You, Now Die, Britney v. Spears, and Fanatical: The Catfishing of Tegan and Sara, has taken on a challenging project with The Swan: Behind The Mirror. This documentary delves into one of the most controversial reality TV series of the 2000s.
Speaking to Mashable Entertainment Editor Kristy Puchko, Carr revealed her approach to creating a platform for the swans to share their stories and reshape their narratives.
When Carr was approached to direct The Swan, she made it a priority to empower the contestants. She not only included every individual who wished to participate but also arranged a reunion for the flock of swans to celebrate their resilience and beauty, both inside and out. During the documentary, they uncovered some shocking revelations, such as the nude photos that plastic surgeon Dr. Randal Haworth still possesses from Season 2 contestants.
Carr's work in documentary filmmaking has always been driven by empathy, whether she is interviewing coerced reality TV stars or convicted killers. The Swan: Behind The Mirror is now available to stream on Hulu.
