A recent analysis by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky has revealed the most popular mobile apps among children in Pakistan during the first eight months of 2026. According to the report, YouTube reigned supreme as the leading app, accounting for 31.2% of children's app activity. Instagram followed closely behind in second place with 18.8% usage.
WhatsApp came in third with 17.4% of app time, while Facebook claimed 10.8% of children's mobile app time. The fifth most popular app, TikTok, saw 5.7% of children's app usage. Kaspersky also noted that multiplayer games played a significant role in children's online activities, with Roblox being accessed on both smartphones and computers.
While acknowledging the allure of these popular apps, Kaspersky's Andrey Sidenko cautioned parents about the potential risks children face. These include exposure to strangers, online grooming, phishing, blackmail, and involvement in harmful or illegal activities. Additionally, Sidenko expressed concern about the potential misuse of generative AI to create deepfakes for cyberbullying.
The firm warned that photos, videos, and other shared content could be repurposed into fabricated material, endangering children's privacy and digital reputations. To protect their children, Sidenko advised parents to discuss online risks with their children and to advise them against sharing sensitive information or photos, interacting with strangers, or keeping online conversations secret.
These findings were based on anonymized Kaspersky Safe Kids data on children's app usage on Android devices and desktop computers during the aforementioned period.
