Tampin tragedy: Cable snag topples utility pole, killing motorcyclist, police detain lorry driver

Tampin, October 2 — A fatal accident occurred in Felda Jelai yesterday, as a utility pole fell onto an elderly motorcyclist. The deceased was a 61-year-old man, riding his motorcycle from Felda Jelai 3 towards the Felda Jelai Health Clinic. The trailer lorry involved in the incident was driven by a 40-year-old man. Preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry had apparently become caught on a utility cable as it exited a junction from Felda Jelai 4, causing the pole on the adjacent side of the road to collapse onto the motorcyclist.

The victim sustained severe head injuries and succumbed to his injuries at the Felda Jelai Health Clinic while receiving medical treatment. The trailer lorry driver has been detained to aid the ongoing investigation. The case will be examined under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
