Suri rumah didakwa bunuh ibu

Suri rumah Chew Loong Thye, aged 49, has faced Ipoh High Court over charges of murdering his mother, Ching Lai Kheng, 70, at a home in Menglembu last week. The accused, Chew Loong Thye, merely expressed understanding of the indictment in Cantonese before Magistrate Norizan Riduan, according to Sinar Harian. No plea was recorded from the accused.

Based on the charge, he is accused of committing murder against Ching Lai Kheng between 7:15 pm and 7:30 pm on September 27, 2022, at a house in Taman Wang, Menglembu. The indictment was presented under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which prescribes the death penalty or imprisonment for at least 30 years but not more than 40 years, and a fine of not less than 12 times, unless sentenced to death.

The prosecution is handled by Deputy Crown Prosecutor Ainin Sofiya Azlaini, while the accused is not represented by a lawyer. Earlier, Ainin Sofiya informed the court that the pathology and toxicology reports were still pending, and no guarantee was offered. The accused mentioned taking psychiatric medication. The court subsequently ordered the accused to be referred to a psychiatrist for a psychiatric report under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code. A retrial date was set for November 2 to obtain the report, including a psychiatric one.
