Sony Circling ‘Battlefield’ Adaptation From Michael B. Jordan And Christopher McQuarrie

Sony Pictures is currently in discussions to acquire Electronic Arts' "Battlefield" video game package, which was released in the spring, according to TheWrap. The adaptation of the popular series is set to be written, directed, and produced by Christopher McQuarrie, with Michael B. Jordan set to produce and potentially star in the film.

Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Sony, Universal, and Netflix all submitted bids for what is being described as the most competitive bidding war of the year. The first "Battlefield" game, "Battlefield 1942," was released for PC and Mac in 2002 and has since expanded to consoles, covering various time periods, including World War II and a futuristic setting.

The latest installment, "Battlefield 6," was reportedly one of the most expensive games ever made and became the top-selling game of 2024, outselling "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7" for the first time in nearly a decade. This strong performance has given EA the confidence to pursue a Hollywood adaptation. McQuarrie, known for his work on "The Social Network" and "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," has teamed up with Oscar-winning actor Michael B. Jordan, who is handling production and potential starring roles.

The bidding war also includes Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Universal, and Netflix, with Sony Pictures emerging as the frontrunner.
