Rasmus Hojlund's goal for Denmark against Portugal has sparked a statement about his admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo. The Manchester United striker scored a deft chip in the 53rd minute, briefly equalising the match, which Portugal won 4-2. Hojlund dedicated his goal and Ronaldo-esque celebration to his idol, who had recently left the Portugal camp.
The trouble between Ronaldo and the Portugal team began after coach Jorge Jesus left the veteran forward on the bench during their match against Norway. Ronaldo subsequently refused to attend training and left the team after holding talks with Jesus and the federation. Hojlund's tribute came after the final whistle, as the Dane expressed his happiness to have had the opportunity to score and his sadness at not winning.
The celebration also served as a long-standing show of admiration for Ronaldo, who Hojlund sees as a pivotal figure in his football journey.
