Police foil bandit attack in Sokoto, recover rocket launchers

The Sokoto State Police Command successfully thwarted an attempted bandit attack on the Tsabre community in Isa Local Government Area on Friday morning. Armed bandits reportedly stormed the village in the early hours, exchanging gunfire with residents, causing fear and panic. Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Isa swiftly deployed tactical teams, including Anti-Kidnapping Unit and Violent Crime Response Unit officers, to counter the attackers.

The police engaged the bandits in a prolonged gun battle, eventually forcing them to flee into a nearby forest. The tactical teams pursued the fugitives, leading to the recovery of significant weapons and items abandoned by the attackers. Two rocket launchers and two empty AK-47 magazines were recovered, along with other items such as a Techno keypad phone, a touch light, an Army jungle hat, a sweater cap, five pairs of sandals, and a rain jacket.

Commissioner of Police Hayatu Shaffa praised the officers for their quick response and bravery during the operation. He emphasized the command's dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant, reporting any suspicious individuals or activities to the police. Shaffa also appealed to those with gunshot wounds to seek medical attention at the nearest police station, as authorities continued their efforts to locate the fleeing bandits.
