Navi Mumbai police have arrested a man accused of molesting a woman in a red Thar vehicle within 10 hours. The investigation began when a 26-year-old woman reported being molested by a masked man in a red Thar around 10.30 pm on September 30 while walking from BD Somani School to Pethpada Metro station. The woman claimed the accused approached her, touched her inappropriately, and then drove away.
Four Crime Branch teams worked simultaneously to trace the vehicle and its driver. They utilized CCTV footage, mobile dump data, RTO records, and information from Mahindra service centres. Initially, the registration number displayed on the Thar was found to be fake. The teams then scrutinized details of 62 registered red-coloured Thars, eventually identifying the vehicle as belonging to Ali alias Talib Ahsan Naqvi, 30, a resident of Seawoods and accused of fabricating number plates.
Naqvi, who runs a fabrication business with his father, admitted to the offence during questioning. Police found and arrested him at his father's residence in Bonkode, Koparkhairane. Naqvi is currently being medically examined and handed over to Kharghar police for further investigation. Authorities are also investigating whether he may be linked to other similar incidents.
