Mega cleaning drive draws mass participation
The drive was accompanied by awareness programmes aimed at promoting responsible waste management among the public. Special grama sabhas, competitions for school students and other awareness activities were also organised as part of the campaign.
In a massive cleaning initiative, local self-government bodies across Kozhikode district cleared 52,318 kilograms of waste from 883 locations on October 2. Over 18,318 volunteers, including elected officials, government staff, students, and community members, took part in the effort. The 'Kaiyyodu Kai' campaign also included educational programs to encourage proper waste disposal among residents.
Activities like special gram sabhas, school competitions, and other awareness events were held to promote responsible waste management and discourage littering in public areas.
