Lorry driver held, nearly RM1mil worth of subsidised diesel seized

Johor Baru - The regional marine police made a significant bust in an operation targeting subsidized diesel smuggling, seizing an estimated RM949,160 in fuel and five vehicles in a raid yesterday.

Assistant Commissioner Noor Azman Jamal of Region Two Marine Police announced the arrest of a 50-year-old lorry driver suspected of distributing the illicit fuel. Two lorries were seized during the 11:45am operation in Jalan Penaga, Taman Kota Puteri, Masai. Following the initial arrest, a further four vehicles were taken from the surrounding area.

The driver, who is believed to be involved in the distribution network, was found in possession of three compartment tanks filled with diesel at the rear of the lorries. A total of 23,000 litres of diesel fuel, along with 24 compartment tanks and two electric pumps with hoses, were also seized.

Initial investigations suggest that the suspect had been engaged in the illegal activity for the past two months. The case will be investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
