Kennedy Center Honors 2026 Moving Forward — But Not at the Embattled Venue
The Kennedy Center will announce the honorees and the program’s broadcast partner at a later date.
The 49th annual Kennedy Center Honors will take place on December 7, 2026, at Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, D.C. The prestigious event, which honors notable figures in the performing arts, has been held at the larger Capital One Arena since 2026, replacing the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts' Opera House.
The decision to move the event comes amid tension over the venue and award's names, which have been a point of contention between the Kennedy Center and former President Donald Trump. The 2026 honorees and the broadcast partner for the program will be revealed at a later date.
