Karachi Youth Detained After Claude Queries Trigger FBI Referral

A young man from Karachi was briefly held by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) following questions he posed to an AI platform concerning the murder of an imaginary police officer. The resident of PECHS informed investigators that he was crafting a fictional crime narrative involving a police officer who allegedly disparaged his father.

As part of the narrative, he inquired to Claude about potential actions against the fictional officer, including inquiries about how the character could be killed. The NCCIA's safety system flagged the queries on September 4. Authorities subsequently shared the information with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the United States, who then forwarded it to Pakistani authorities.

The referral led to the detention of the youth for questioning. The individual clarified during the investigation that the scenario was entirely fictional, asserting that no incident involving his father had actually occurred. He also stated that he harbored no intention of causing harm and that the entire situation was a creation of a fictional crime story he had conceived himself.

Following questioning, the authorities released him, concluding that the queries were linked to the fictional story rather than a real-world plan.
