India v Pakistan for Asian Games T20 gold – what happens if there is a washout?

In a high-stakes Asian Games T20 final, India and Pakistan are set to battle for the gold medal on Saturday. The Indian team, the reigning champions, will be aiming to retain their title and follow in the footsteps of their successful women's team. Despite their impressive run, winning six consecutive matches against Pakistan, the two teams have a history of friendly rivalry.

India's strong performance in the semi-final, defeating Sri Lanka by 124 runs, showcased their batting prowess with Ishan Kishan's 80 runs leading the charge. Pakistan, on the other hand, had an easy path to the final, beating Bangladesh by six wickets in their quarter-final. With their last four matches against India ending in Indian victories, the Indian team is favored to win the final, scheduled for 9am UAE time.

The recent political tensions between India and Pakistan have also been a point of contention, with players from both nations refusing to shake hands during matches. This issue has led to the ACC chief not attending the Asian Games, but the ACC president has sent his best wishes to all participating teams.

In the event of a washout, India will retain the gold medal as they have a superior ICC ranking. Pakistan will also be awarded the gold medal as joint winners, similar to the outcome in Hangzhou where India received gold and Afghanistan received silver due to India's better rankings. The bronze medal match will feature Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
