‘Every corner reminds him of her’: Mukhriz appeals for privacy for Dr Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 — Mukhriz Mahathir, son of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, has called for public and media understanding as his father mourns the loss of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali. The late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah had been his father's wife for 70 years. "Tun Mahathir, as we can see, has not even gone through a week since the passing of his beloved wife," Mukhriz said, describing his father's current state.

The former prime minister's emotional and physical well-being is significant as he navigates this profound loss. Mukhriz, speaking at a ceremony held at the Saidina Umar Al-Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara, explained that his father finds the family home emotionally challenging, as nearly every room evokes memories of his late wife.

For this reason, Mukhriz suggested that it would be better for Dr Mahathir to remain temporarily at the National Heart Institute until his condition improves. He visited his mother's grave, a step towards closure. Mukhriz appealed to everyone to show empathy and avoid pressuring his father during this delicate period.
