Devendra Fadnavis Launches Dharavi Experience Centre Near BKC In Mumbai
He said that this serves as an ideal example of the urban transformation taking place across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On Friday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the Dharavi Experience Centre in Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti, the 157th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The inauguration took place in the presence of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project/Slum Rehabilitation Authority (DRP/SRA) and its execution partner, Adani Navbharat Developers Private Limited.
The Experience Centre, spread over 22,500 square feet, offers residents an interactive space to visualize the proposed redevelopment plan and housing provided under the project.
During the event, Fadnavis unveiled an anthem dedicated to Dharavi and released a coffee table book that documents the area's history, businesses, culture, and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Dharavi Experience Centre showcases various aspects of the proposed transformation, including life-size housing models, digital screens, interactive exhibits, and a 3D walkthrough displaying the potential look of the revamped neighborhood.
The center features furnished and unfurnished models of 350-square-foot and 500-square-foot homes, allowing visitors to walk through the proposed layouts and understand the utilization of the available space.
The redevelopment plan seeks to maintain Dharavi's distinctive live-work character, with mixed-use neighborhoods, improved access to schools, healthcare facilities, community spaces, and public transport. Parks and open spaces are also included in the plan to create more walkable neighborhoods and enhance access to social infrastructure. Additionally, the redevelopment project envisions a Multimodal Transport Hub to improve connectivity within Dharavi and the wider Mumbai region.
