Cellmax launches locally-developed wound care products
The products, developed after eight years of research and RM7 million in investment, have been registered with the Medical Device Authority.
On September 25, Malaysian medical technology firm Cellmax Healthcare Sdn Bhd unveiled two homegrown wound care solutions after a span of over eight years of research and development. The new products, Cellmax Freeze-Dried Powder and Cellmax Wound Spray, made their debut at the World Union of Wound Healing Societies congress held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. The event was graced by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang and Cellmax's managing director, Loke Mei Chan.
According to a statement from Cellmax, the products are aimed at curbing long-term treatment expenses for patients recuperating from chronic ulcers, traumatic injuries, and surgical wounds. These innovations were born out of clinical trials conducted in partnership with Hospital Kuala Lumpur, which involved patients with complex, chronic, and difficult-to-heal wounds. Following two years of safety compliance, the products were registered with the Medical Device Authority.
Loke Mei Chan, Cellmax's managing director, expressed the company's ambition to lessen dependence on imported medical products by fostering locally-made alternatives and potentially exporting them. Prior to the commercial launch, Cellmax's research team emerged victorious in Season 2 of Innovathon, Malaysia's inaugural innovation reality TV show organized by the science, technology, and innovation ministry.
Additionally, the team secured a gold award in the innovation pioneer (patent) category at the national intellectual property awards 2026.
