LAHORE: Pakistan needs a well-tailored, sector-specific strategy to tap the Brazilian market, as the existing bilateral trade volume falls far short of the two countries’ potential, President Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Ali Hassam Asghar said on Thursday. Pakistan must adopt a customized strategy to exploit the Brazilian market, according to Ali Hassam Asghar, president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). Speaking at a conference with the Trade Counsellor/Head of Mission from the Embassy of Pakistan, Dr Muhammad Babar Chohan, Asghar urged the strengthening of business-to-business connections, reliable market intelligence, and enhanced communication between Pakistani and Brazilian business entities.
He emphasized the importance of expanding trade ties with global markets and recommended that commercial missions aid exporters by offering market intelligence, pointing out potential buyers, and fostering direct contact opportunities.
Dr Babar Chohan further highlighted the necessity of implementing a sector-specific and product-focused approach towards Latin American markets, backed by market intelligence, commercial diplomacy, innovation, artificial intelligence, and adherence to international standards. He mentioned Brazil, Colombia, and Venezuela as promising markets for Pakistani exports.
Emphasizing the need to comprehend individual market requirements, buyers, applicable standards, and competing countries' offerings and prices, Chohan stated that the FoodAg 2026 expo in Karachi presented a significant opportunity for connecting Latin American buyers and business leaders in Pakistan.
Dr Babar Chohan's suggestion came after 15 prominent Brazilian and Colombian CEOs visited Karachi during the previous exhibition, leading to business contacts and prospects, especially in the textile domain. The LCCI's Senior Vice President, Sardar Usman Ghani, advocated for diversification away from traditional export categories and pinpointing non-traditional products that Pakistan could deliver competitively.
The Vice President Khadim Hussain Chaudhry called for a strategic approach towards international markets, emphasizing competitiveness, market access, product positioning, quality, and buyer relationships.
Former LCCI Senior Vice President Nasir Hameed Khan pointed out that Pakistan only holds a minuscule portion of Brazil's import market, despite possessing strengths in rubber products, apparel, textiles, medical supplies, plastics, surgical instruments, and sports goods. With Brazil's imports amounting to approximately USD280 billion, Pakistan's share is only 0.04 percent.
