Bihar Floods Worsen As Embankments Breach In Saran, CWC Issues Orange Alert At 28 Locations

As floodwaters from the swollen Gandak River entered previously unaffected areas of Bihar's Saran district, the Central Water Commission issued an 'Orange' alert on October 2, indicating a severe flood situation at 28 locations across several districts. The Orange alert means the water level has risen above the danger mark but is still below the highest flood level.

The Gandak, Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati and Ghagra rivers are currently flowing above the danger mark at various locations following heavy rainfall in Nepal and Uttar Pradesh. The embankments in Saran, Gopalganj, East and West Champaran, Vaishali, Supaul and Patna districts are under immense pressure. The Disaster Management Department has deployed 12 National Disaster Response Force and 7 State Disaster Response Force teams to intensify relief and rescue operations in Saran, where more farmlands, houses and roads have been inundated.

Over 3,000 ration packets have been air-dropped, with an additional 5,000 on the way. Twelve deer rescued from the swollen Gandak River were found near Paru in Muzaffarpur.
