AI robots, into the furnace 'mass suicide'… 'Terminator' scene becomes reality

Figure AI, a US-based humanoid robot developer, has decommissioned its old robots by having them jump into a foundry furnace, similar to a scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The robots, which were used at a BMW factory in Spartanburg, were being replaced by new models F.03 and F.04. To avoid revealing proprietary technology, the company chose to melt down the old robots, with the help of Arnold Schwarzenegger, the star of the Terminator film.

The robots were successfully melted down at a foundry in Imatra, Finland, and the resulting metal is being turned into limited-edition memorabilia.
