Four individuals have been apprehended in Busia and Bungoma counties following a series of anti-narcotics operations conducted by security forces. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the raids targeted narcotics moving along crucial transportation routes, leading to the seizure of a significant quantity of cannabis sativa.

In Busia County, detectives from the National Anti-Narcotics Investigation Bureau (NANIB) intercepted a Fuso lorry along the Busia–Kisumu Highway. The lorry was en route to Nairobi, loaded with cereals. During a search of the vehicle, authorities uncovered 14 bales of cannabis sativa concealed among the cargo. The drugs, wrapped in two sacks beneath dry cassava, weighed 59.15 kilograms and reportedly had an estimated street value of Ksh 1,774,500. Two suspects were apprehended at the scene.

Moving to Bungoma County, officers from Bungoma Police Station intercepted a grey Toyota Probox during routine patrols along the Siritanyi–Mateka Road. The search of the vehicle revealed five bales of cannabis weighing seven kilograms, carefully wrapped in yellow tape and concealed within a sack. Two more individuals were arrested in connection with this operation.

As of now, the four suspects remain in custody while police process the cases, with the intention of presenting them in court. The impounded vehicles and the seized narcotics have been secured as evidence. The DCI emphasized that they would continue their efforts to dismantle narcotics trafficking networks and encouraged the public to report any suspected criminal activity via their anonymous reporting channels.
