US deploys thousands of troops to Middle East as Trump weighs strikes on Iran

The United States has dispatched a third aircraft carrier strike group to the Middle East amid escalating tensions with Iran. President Donald Trump is contemplating increasing military action against Tehran. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is en route to the Central Command's operational area in the Middle East, accompanied by its carrier strike group comprised of multiple vessels. Additionally, a separate amphibious group carrying over 2,000 marines has also departed for the region.

Former US President Donald Trump suggested during his recent address to the UN General Assembly that he is contemplating whether to negotiate a deal with Iran or drive it "into hell." He hinted that Tehran might reach a consensus after the US midterm elections on November 3, but also warned of potential annihilation of the Iranian regime.

The USS George HW Bush and USS George Washington aircraft carriers are currently present in the region. The Roosevelt is anticipated to assume the role of Washington, which has been stationed in Japan since August, replacing the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Reports have surfaced regarding deteriorated conditions aboard the Lincoln following months of continuous deployment. The US Navy's acting secretary revealed last week that eight servicemembers in the carrier strike group attempted suicide during the mission. The Iran situation is at a critical juncture, with indirect talks held between the US and Iran following the UN General Assembly in New York.

However, Trump continues to threaten military action against Iran. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Thursday that Tehran has "never shied away from talks, and we never will." Trump asserted that Iran must "either decide to sign a very fair deal, or they won't exist any longer."
