A former teacher in Lagos State has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing an eight-year-old pupil. In March 2022, Nwatu Isaac allegedly took the girl into the school toilet and sexually assaulted her. Justice Rahman Oshodi ruled that the prosecution proved Isaac's guilt beyond reasonable doubt, based on the victim's testimony, evidence from the girl's mother, a medical examination, and rejection of Isaac's alibi and other defenses.
The court also ordered Isaac's name to be placed on the Sex Offenders Register. The judge emphasized the importance of protecting children and holding all those who commit sexual abuse accountable.
