SPRM kesan kepincangan tatakelola UiTM Holdings

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has uncovered governance issues in its investigation of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd, according to an announcement by MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman during the MACC 59th anniversary celebration and monthly assembly. These recommendations for improvements are standard practice when governance weaknesses are discovered during an investigation.

While MACC Chief Commissioner Abd Halim did not specify the exact number of governance lapses identified, he emphasized the importance of addressing such shortcomings. The MACC investigation into UiTM Holdings began in 2023, focusing on alleged misappropriation, including issues surrounding a 50-megawatt solar project in Gambang, Pahang, as well as governance weaknesses.

The probe specifically targeted funds and investments made by UiTM Holdings, resulting in millions of ringgit in losses. Former UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Azlizan Fadzil appeared in court this year, pleading not guilty to criminal breach of trust involving RM37.37 million from nine years ago. Abd Halim stated that MACC will recommend measures to address any identified shortcomings but declined to provide further details on the governance issues uncovered.

The MACC investigation into UiTM Holdings currently centers on the former CEO, but the commission stated it will continue investigating if new evidence surfaces involving others. The investigation has been ongoing since 2023, and MACC acknowledged that investigations can take an extended period without a predetermined time limit.
