BOSTON, Massachusetts - September 24, 2026 - Following a devastating 9-0 loss to the New York Yankees in Game 1, the Boston Red Sox have announced a lineup decision for Game 2. Trevor Story, who will be batting eighth, will lead off with the ninth-highest batting average on Boston's roster. This will be the third consecutive game where Story bats eighth, with previous appearances being in Boston's September 25 matchup against the Chicago Cubs and in Baltimore against the Orioles.
Story went 1-for-3 with a double during Game 1 against the Yankees, marking his first hitting performance in four consecutive games. Despite his recent success, the Red Sox will be relying on Story to carry their team through the rest of the postseason run.
