Padres complete sweep of Cubs, advance to NLDS
News to know about your San Diego Padres and MLB for October 1, 2026.
The San Diego Padres secured a 4-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs in Game Two of their National League Wild Card Series, completing a sweep and advancing to the National League Division Series. The Padres, who have now made the postseason for three consecutive seasons, were propelled by a two-run home run from pinch-hitter Gavin Sheets, solidifying their three-run advantage.
The game's momentum shifted when the Padres broke open scoring in the bottom of the second inning, with no additional runs added after. Starting pitcher Nick Pivetta, much like his counterpart from Game One, struck out multiple batters before surrendering a run. San Diego's bullpen, featuring rookies and regulars alike, shut down the Cubs, with Mason Miller sealing the game with a save.
This victory advances the Padres to face the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS, beginning on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
