Nigeria@66: 2027 election will test our democratic maturity – Jonathan

Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that Nigeria's 2027 general election will be a test of the country's democratic maturity, calling on Nigerians to prioritise peace, unity and justice. Speaking in his Independence Day message, he urged citizens to remain patriotic and committed to national unity as preparations for the upcoming election begin.

Jonathan reminded Nigerians of the numerous challenges the nation has faced since gaining independence but credited the resilience of its people for overcoming them. He encouraged the nation to remain hopeful and united as it looks towards a better future. Despite Nigeria's progress, Jonathan stressed the importance of harnessing the country's diversity and abundant natural and human resources to drive sustainable development.

He urged young Nigerians to maintain hope and courage while working towards a prosperous future for all generations. To achieve this future, he called on leaders at all levels to demonstrate deeper patriotism and confront the country's social and economic challenges through personal sacrifice, good governance and accountability.
