Mumbai, October 1, 2026 - The Sessions Court Bar Association has requested ambulance services and basic medical facilities on the court premises due to a rising number of incidents involving fainting lawyers. In a letter to the Principal Sessions Judge, the Bombay City Civil and Bar Association outlined multiple emergencies that occurred on court premises on Tuesday.
One case involved a female advocate who fainted, requiring immediate medical intervention. The association cited this incident as proof of the urgent need for dedicated ambulance services and emergency medical equipment within the court premises. Asif Naqvi, secretary of the Bar Association, noted that another senior advocate recently fell down a flight of stairs, and it took nearly an hour for an ambulance to arrive.
Naqvi had previously written to the Chief Justice of India in November 2025 about the lack of emergency medical facilities in court premises, which has now been turned into a public interest litigation. He further requested at least two Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at easily accessible locations within the court premises to quickly respond to cardiac emergencies. Naqvi has also filed a petition with the Bombay High Court on this matter.
