'We Have Been Gradually Preparing': Capcom Already Has a Plan for When Its Resident Evil Remakes Catch Up With Newer Games

Capcom has a plan in place for when its Resident Evil remake series eventually catches up with newer games in the series, according to Jun Takeuchi, a veteran executive producer who has overseen the franchise over the past decade. Takeuchi acknowledges that Capcom's successful remakes of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 have left only Resident Evil 5 and 6 to be remade.

The publisher is already considering what to do with these titles and has been gradually preparing for a crossover with the main numbered titles. Resident Evil 7 is seen as a turning point for the series, after which Takeuchi believes the remake series will eventually catch up with the era of numbered titles. The publisher is thinking about what they will do when that happens and has been incorporating crossover elements like Umbrella, Spencer, and Raccoon City into the remake series.

Takeuchi stated that Resident Evil 7 was developed with plans to remake older games in mind, which led to the inclusion of crossover elements based on fan reactions. While Resident Evil 5 and 6 are both interesting prospects for new remakes, Capcom's suggestion that they are using remakes to seed ideas for newer titles is the most intriguing aspect of the plan.
