UN Crime Congress deepens international dialogue and strengthens partnerships to address evolving criminal threats

Day five of the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in Abu Dhabi 2026 focused on addressing emerging forms of crime, strengthening international partnerships, advancing capacity-building efforts, and promoting responsible technology use in criminal justice. The morning programme delved into agenda item 5, discussing organised crime, terrorism, and the responsible use of technology for crime prevention and criminal justice.

In the afternoon, discussions under agenda item 6 began, emphasizing strengthening cooperation and partnerships, including technical and material assistance and training at various levels. The Congress also witnessed the adoption of the Committee I report, supporting the completion of the conference's thematic outcomes. The "Future of Criminal Justice 2045" study, organized by the UAE Public Prosecution, explored how artificial intelligence and digital technologies are transforming justice systems, from proactive systems anticipating risks to more analytical investigations.

Participants stressed the importance of harnessing AI while preserving legality, the presumption of innocence, and accountability. The study presented the "Prosecution of the Future" model, an integrated framework with four pillars: constitutional and legal foundations, advanced digital capabilities, ethical governance, and data and algorithmic sovereignty.

Cooperations and partnerships discussions aimed to expand technical assistance, align it with national priorities, and strengthen ties among governments, international organizations, law enforcement, judicial institutions, academia, civil society, and the private sector.
