Ukraine And Norway Work To Strengthen Air Defense Amid Russian Attacks

Ukraine and Norway are collaborating to enhance Ukraine's air defense systems in response to Russia's increased utilization of ballistic missiles and jet-powered Shahed drones, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara. The minister informed Norwegian counterpart Tore Sandvik about the challenges Ukraine faces in protecting its airspace, emphasizing that ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones pose the most significant threats.

Despite these adversities, Ukrainian forces are actively developing their own defense mechanisms against these threats, with some success in intercepting jet-powered UAVs. Khmara provided Sandvik with a list of urgent needs for bolstering Ukraine's air defense capabilities, including ammunition for F-16 fighter jets and man-portable air defense systems.

He expressed gratitude to Norway for its ongoing and significant support, noting that Norway allocates around 1.3% of its GDP annually to aid Ukraine, which amounts to approximately $7 billion. The conversation takes place amid a resurgence of Russian missile and drone assaults on Ukrainian cities and vital infrastructure. Ukraine is requesting additional air defense systems, interceptor missiles, ammunition, and other resources from its international allies to bolster its defense against the evolving aerial threats.

Both nations are anticipated to persistently coordinate efforts to fortify Ukraine's defensive measures against Russia's persistent aerial campaign.
