UK regulator warns Brink’s takeover could hurt ATM competition

Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has expressed concerns that the proposed $6.6 billion merger between The Brink’s Company and NCR Atleos could significantly reduce competition in the UK ATM market. The combined entity would be the largest ATM deployer in the UK and among the top providers of ATM deployment, operation, and maintenance services.

The CMA found that the companies compete intensely, with limited competition from other players. Additionally, the merged group would dominate the second-line ATM maintenance sector, where the market is concentrated and dominated by a few providers. The regulator estimates that the deal could raise competition concerns in 122 local areas.

Brink’s and NCR Atleos have until October 7 to propose remedies, or the CMA will refer the matter for a full investigation if it deems the proposed remedies inadequate.
