UK PM: 'Strong indications' Iran involved in RAF Fairford incident

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham suggested on Wednesday that there were strong indications Iran was involved in a recent security incident at RAF Fairford, a UK airbase used by the US military. The bomb scare near the airbase on Sunday prompted a major security response, involving masked men and three white vans blocking a road.

Police later found no explosives, but retrieved petrol. Burnham, speaking to the BBC, stated that Iran's role in the incident had been confirmed, though he noted the investigation was ongoing and complex. Iran's embassy in London rejected these claims, calling them "categorically rejected and strongly condemned." The incident has caused confusion, with initial reports of suspects arrested on suspicion of explosives and terrorism offenses later discovered to be false.

The base's location in Gloucestershire countryside aggravated tensions, as Iran had previously warned against US use of UK military bases.
