UAE Customs seizes 16.2kg of crystal meth hidden in vehicle

UAE Customs authorities intercepted 16.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine concealed within a vehicle's tire at a border crossing. Suspicion arose during the vehicle's passage through sophisticated radiation scanning systems, which detected anomalies. Manual inspection teams, bolstered by the Customs and Security Support Department's canine drug-detection unit, subsequently uncovered the illicit narcotics.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security emphasized the role of both advanced screening technologies and the proficiency of customs inspectors in thwarting smuggling attempts at UAE entry points. Since the beginning of 2026, the General Directorate of Border Security has documented 765 drug seizures, involving approximately 390 kilograms of narcotics and 50,000 pills.

The authority commended its inspection officers for their efficient and effective performance, reaffirming its dedication to enhancing inspection systems to safeguard society from narcotics-related threats and deter potential security threats, as part of broader national efforts to protect the community.
