U.S. prosecutors reopen Cornell gang rape case after outcry

Host Sunny Hostin of "The View" criticized the reporting and handling of an alleged gang rape case at Cornell University on Tuesday. According to Hostin, the case is being reported "inaccurately" and "unfairly." Cornell is facing backlash after a former student filed a civil suit alleging she was drugged, assaulted, and gang-raped by seven fraternity brothers in 2024.

A leaked fraternity group chat from the night of the incident revealed that members were invited to participate in the assault. Hostin expressed concern that pictures of the accused, who have not been charged or adjudicated, were being widely circulated online. She argued that the reporting of the case was inaccurate and unfair, stating that no prosecutor would have brought forth a case as the victim had voluntarily ingested drugs.

While host Alyssa Farah Griffin conceded that Hostin was technically correct about the law, she questioned the law itself, stating that being under the influence does not legally constitute an inability to consent.
