Two Manchester United Women stars called up for England squad, one unusual omission

Two Manchester United Women players, Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park, have been selected for the England national team squad. This news comes after a challenging start to the season for the club, with two losses to London City Lionesses and Chelsea. However, United has recently turned its fortunes around, securing a draw with Arsenal and a convincing 10-1 victory over Sheffield United.

Their latest win over West Ham United in the league has further boosted their confidence. Tonight, they will face Durham in the Players' Cup, before a much-anticipated clash against Liverpool on Saturday.

In addition to the domestic success, the international break is upon them. The duo have been included in Sarina Wiegman's latest England squad. England will face a two-legged playoff against Greece to secure a place in the next round of the 2027 World Cup playoffs. The first leg is scheduled for 9 October at the Pankritio Stadium in Crete, followed by the return fixture at the King Power Stadium in Leicester on 13 October.

While Le Tissier and Park have been called up, there is one notable omission from the squad: Ella Toone. Despite a promising start to the season, including a goal against Sheffield United, Toone has been dropped from the England team by coach Sarina Wiegman. Toone and Chloe Kelly have been excluded due to their performance levels, according to the Guardian. The two players will have to wait for a second chance to earn their place back in the squad.
