Trump orders US agencies to rename AI ‘Super Intelligence’

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order instructing federal agencies to replace the terms "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" with "Super Intelligence" and "SI" in all official communications. The directive, issued on Tuesday, aims to reflect the rapid advancement of the technology, with the administration stating that modern AI systems now surpass their initial capabilities.

Technologies developed by American innovators have advanced beyond the original scope of AI, increasingly enhancing human creativity and capabilities. The order stipulates that existing regulations, presidential actions, contracts, grants, and historical documents containing the term "Artificial Intelligence" will not be altered.

A White House spokesperson explained that the change in terminology recognizes the evolving nature of the technology and its potential to enable new forms of creativity and achievement. The order also directs the President's Assistant for Science and Technology to collaborate with relevant agencies to draft legislative language establishing a federal definition for "Super Intelligence" and "SI" within 60 days.

During the announcement, Trump argued that the word "artificial" did not adequately capture the extreme intelligence demonstrated by the technology. He described the new terminology as a more suitable way to refer to its capabilities, emphasizing the advanced nature of the systems being developed. In addition to the executive order, Trump invited technology executives to the White House on Tuesday, where they signed a voluntary agreement, described as "morally binding," aimed at establishing controls and oversight mechanisms for the development of advanced AI systems.
