Transcript shows woman told Cornell police 2 years ago she was 100% confident she was raped

Two years ago, a woman accused seven men of sexually assaulting her at a Cornell University fraternity house, saying she was "completely and totally incapacitated" during the attack. She told police she had been drinking alcohol and taking drugs and had gaps in her memory from the night of the incident. In a recent CBS New York report, the woman stated she was "100 per cent confident" she was raped.

At the time of the incident in October 2024, Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten decided not to prosecute the accused, citing the woman's detailed statement. However, Van Houten has since reopened the investigation based on new information from her lawsuit, filed this month. Cornell University has agreed to bring in outside lawyers to independently review how it handled the woman's allegations.

The university suspended the Chi Phi fraternity following the initial report and appointed a task force to address sexual assault on campus. Cornell has also disciplined or expelled several students based on its own investigation. The Chi Phi chapter remains barred from campus, but the university has not released additional details on individual student discipline, citing privacy rules.
