Touch ‘n Go to add 10 Enhanced RFID lanes for Malaysia’s MLFF transition

Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd, Malaysia's leading toll operator, plans to introduce 10 new Enhanced RFID lanes by the end of the year to facilitate the country's transition to a Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) tolling system. This expansion, revealed as part of the company's 30th anniversary celebrations, is in line with their commitment to supporting the government’s barrier-free tolling initiative through advanced technology.

Liza Woon Yin Yin, Touch 'n Go's Chief Operations Officer, stated that the 10 additional lanes will be deployed at five highways, with two lanes each at Putrajaya Toll Plaza on the Maju Expressway, Sungai Ramal Toll Plaza on the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway, Bukit Raja Toll Plaza on the Grand Sepadu Highway, Bukit Jelutong Toll Plaza on the Guthrie Corridor Expressway, and Sungai Long and Ampang Toll Plazas on the East Klang Valley Expressway.

Currently, the company operates two Enhanced RFID lanes at the Ampang-bound Dato Keramat toll plaza on the AKLEH and the Putrajaya-bound Putrajaya toll plaza on the MEX Highway.

Woon Yin Yin explained that the new lanes will utilize a state-of-the-art technology featuring two RFID antennas paired with an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera. This enhanced technology strengthens security and accuracy by simultaneously scanning both the front and back of vehicles. She assured motorists that the upgraded lanes will provide a tolling experience comparable to the envisioned MLFF system.

During the MyASEAN Roads & Traffic Tech Expo, Woon Yin Yin toured Touch 'n Go's Connected Mobility pavilion, highlighting their 30-year journey and technological milestones. The new lanes will be easily identifiable through a gold star symbol on lane signage. Unlike conventional lanes, these Enhanced RFID lanes incorporate components of Touch 'n Go's proprietary Titan Flow technology stack, integrating enhanced RFID capabilities with artificial intelligence and machine learning.

This multi-technology approach significantly improves vehicle detection and lane throughput, ensuring reliable toll transactions even at higher speeds.
