Thane Tension: Family, Supporters Protest Outside Kapurbawdi Police Station Over Shiv Sena (UBT) Leader Pradip Purnekar’s Murder | VIDEO

Thane witnessed a tense situation on September 30, 2026, after the fatal shooting of Shiv Sena (UBT) faction division chief Pradip Purnekar. Purnekar's family, along with hundreds of party workers and supporters, protested outside the Kapurbawdi Police Station in Thane. After the autopsy conducted at J.J. Hospital in Mumbai, the family's remains were returned to Thane for final rites. However, the family and supporters refused to perform the cremation until all suspects involved in the murder were arrested.

The police are working to calm the protesting family members and demonstrators. A suspect named Pappa Shinde has been arrested, as confirmed by Joint Commissioner of Police Dnyaneshwar Chavan. Shinde, who was previously acquainted with Purnekar, was arrested due to his suspicious presence at the office during the attack and his involvement in accompanying Purnekar to the hospital.

He is believed to be part of the conspiracy behind the murder. Police records show that Shinde has a criminal history, with 8 to 9 cases registered against him since 2004, and an externment order issued against him in 2014.

Investigators are conducting a thorough investigation into all potential motives, including political, personal, financial, or other angles. A total of 9 to 10 specialized teams have been mobilized to track down the remaining suspects, with four identified accused individuals currently in custody.
