Take steps immediately – Rivers Assembly tasks Gov Fubara as flood take over places

The Rivers State House of Assembly has implored Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take immediate action to tackle the severe flooding plaguing various communities in the state. Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, highlighted the urgent need for the governor's intervention during a visit to flood-affected regions on Tuesday. Persistent rainfall, particularly in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, has led to submerged houses and widespread damage.

In a plenary session on Monday, Deputy Majority Leader Linda Somiari-Stewart introduced a motion to draw attention to the crisis. Upon receiving the motion, the Speaker and other lawmakers toured the affected areas in the state capital. Despite the government's partial efforts to address the issue, the Speaker emphasized that much more is required to alleviate the plight of the affected populace.

"We are calling on the Rivers State Governor to take immediate steps to ameliorate the situation," the Speaker asserted.
