Synopsys, OpenAI partner on AI model for chip design

Synopsys and OpenAI have entered into a multi-year partnership to develop GPT-Synopsys, a specialized AI model for semiconductor design. This innovative model combines OpenAI's cutting-edge AI technology with Synopsys' electronic design automation tools. OpenAI will license Synopsys' EDA tools, while the two companies will share revenue and collaborate on joint marketing efforts to make GPT-Synopsys accessible to customers worldwide.

This partnership will enhance access to Synopsys' advanced design capabilities and the necessary engineering tools for creating increasingly complex chips, as stated by Sassine Ghazi, Synopsys' president and CEO. Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president and co-founder, expressed excitement about bringing this technology to chip design, enabling engineers to explore more designs and bring chips to market faster.

GPT-Synopsys will run on OpenAI's infrastructure and integrate with Synopsys.ai and the Synopsys Autopilot platform. Early engagements with semiconductor customers are already underway, with customers' design data remaining private and secure, encrypted at all times and with configurable access controls.
