Studio behind Danny Dyer and Hugh Jackman films calls in administrators

True Brit Entertainment, a British film studio established by former Lionsgate UK chief executive Zygi Kamasa, has entered administration just a few years after receiving $150m in start-up financing. The distributor, which launched in 2023 with the goal of revitalizing the UK's independent film industry, has previously released films featuring prominent actors such as Danny Dyer, Pierce Brosnan, and Hugh Jackman.

In 2023, the company secured $150m in financing led by talent agency Three Six Zero, which represents celebrities like Calvin Harris and Jaden Smith. Kamasa aimed to spark a resurgence in British cinema by focusing on indigenous filmmaking, expressing disappointment that audiences had become weary of Hollywood blockbusters. While at Lionsgate, Kamasa supported over 50 British films, including "Brooklyn" and "Bend It Like Beckham."

True Brit's latest major release is "The Death of Robin Hood," starring Hugh Jackman, Jodie Comer, and Bill Skarsgard. The studio's website states its ambition to become the leading distributor of British films in the UK, releasing six to eight British films annually. The Death of Robin Hood marked True Brit's most recent major release, followed by films like "500 Miles" with Bill Nighy, "Giant" featuring Pierce Brosnan, and "Rapture" with Kit Connor and Will Poulter.

Marv Studios, a film distributor founded by Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn, held a small stake in True Brit during its inception. Vaughn expressed his support for British independent films, stating he was pleased to become a small shareholder and hoped to collaborate on new projects together. True Brit Entertainment, Zygi Kamasa, and Three Six Zero did not respond to inquiries for comment.
