Six family members of ISWAP fighters surrender to Nigerian military in Borno

Six family members of Islamic State West Africa Province fighters have handed themselves over to the Nigerian Army in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. This occurred on September 28, 2026, as part of Operation HADIN KAI. According to a counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, the individuals had fled from a terrorist base in Bulakambula, Bama Local Government Area.

They were then transferred to the Grassroots Initiative for Strengthening Community Resilience's Pulka office for further assistance and processing.

Additionally, the Nigerian troops rescued a female minor, believed to be a family member of an ISWAP terrorist, at Hudugum village on the Gwoza–Limankara road. The rescue took place in Gwoza LGA. The minor had escaped from a terrorist stronghold in Waa, located in the Mandara Mountains. Following the rescue, the authorities at the Gwoza IDP Camp took care of the young girl and proceeded with further processing.

These events highlight the ongoing pressure on terrorist elements operating in the Gwoza region. The story emphasizes that individuals linked to insurgents are frequently managing to escape their enclaves and find refuge in areas under the control of security forces.
