Singer Lola Young says vaping has made breathing feel like a 'chore'

Grammy-winning singer Lola Young has revealed her breathing feels like a chore after she began vaping, according to a TikTok post. The 25-year-old Grammy winner stated her lungs feel "battery powered," likening breathing to hard work and even suggesting it might have no tomorrow. Despite acknowledging she should quit, Young admits she is unlikely to give up vaping anytime soon.

Vocal coach Lizzii Hills told BBC Newsbeat that vaping is not advised for artists, as difficulty breathing can negatively affect a singer's voice and performance. Hills warns that vaping negatively impacts the lungs, airways, throat, and respiratory system, which are all connected. The NHS acknowledges vaping is less harmful than smoking, but emphasizes there are still risks, many of which remain unknown.

The government is introducing measures to make vapes less appealing, including a ban on single-use vapes and a new tax on e-cigarette liquid. Hills, who advises artists on vocals, does not recommend vaping to her clients, stating that it is not the healthy choice and performers should strive to maintain optimal health for their voices.
