Sifuna team wins as Tribunal orders Registrar to reserve Linda Mwananchi Party name

The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) overturned the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties' refusal to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement. The Tribunal ordered the Registrar to reserve the name within seven days. The Tribunal ruled that the Registrar's decision lacked legal justification and denied the applicants' right to form a political party.

The Registrar was given seven days to reserver the name after the Tribunal's decision. The dispute involved Caroli Omondi, Pauline Njoroge, and Faith Odhiambo, the self-proclaimed founders of the Linda Mwananchi Movement. They challenged the Registrar's refusal to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi and its abbreviation, LLM. The PPDT also dismissed Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA), known as Linda Party, from the proceedings, as it was not a fully registered political party and thus lacked legal capacity to participate in the proceedings.

The PPDT upheld the applicants' request to set aside the Registrar's decision and direct the reservation of the name within seven days, but declined all other requests made by the applicants.
