Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 223 leads India to record 406-run chase against West Indies

Guwahati, September 30 saw Team India captain Shubman Gill etch his name in the history books as he became the swiftest to score a double century in men's ODI cricket. Gill achieved this monumental feat against West Indies in the second ODI match held at Guwahati on Wednesday, surpassing the previous record of 126 balls set by Ishan Kishan.

Gill's record-breaking double century of 200 was orchestrated in just 117 balls, setting a new benchmark in the sport. This achievement makes Gill only the second batsman after Rohit Sharma to score multiple double centuries in ODI cricket.

Sharing the video updates, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) highlighted the special place these frames would occupy in memory. The remarkable performance of Gill in his chase against West Indies solidified his status as a remarkable batsman.

Interestingly, the records of other players, including Glenn Maxwell, Pathum Nissanka, and Chris Gayle, also come to light. Glenn Maxwell recorded the fastest double century in ODI cricket at 128 balls against Afghanistan in November 2023, while Pathum Nissanka of Sri Lanka reached his double century in the quickest time of just 136 balls against Afghanistan in February 2024. Chris Gayle, a West Indies legend, held the record for the fastest double century with 138 balls against Zimbabwe in February 2015.
