Second full EC meet in 5 days, SIR extended again in Andhra Pradesh, Meghalaya

The Election Commission held its second full meeting in five days on Wednesday, extending deadlines for the SIR (Scrutiny of Identification Reports) process in Andhra Pradesh and Meghalaya, according to Bharti Jain's report. The revised period for settling claims and objections in Andhra Pradesh will now be from July 31 to October 10, while the date for publishing the final poll roll has been extended to October 16. For Meghalaya, the final poll roll publication deadline has been revised to October 26.

This second meeting of the full EC (Election Commission) since allegations surfaced that ECs S S Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had opposed steps taken by the EC 14 times over ten months highlights the commitment of the CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) Gyanesh Kumar and the two ECs to collaborate and conduct regular business meetings. The draft roll of Meghalaya, published on August 5, listed 21.7 lakh electors, with 7.7% absent, shifted, dead and duplicate electors removed.

Similarly, the draft roll of Andhra Pradesh, published after deleting 10.8% of its electorate, contained 3.7 crore electors.
